The Criterion UHD is not low-passed like the Sony UHD and also has a better encode. The source elements used for the restoration are soft and thus the difference appears marginal.

Audio
In general, both the digital LaserDisc mono and Criterion mono sound great: fidelity is the same across both tracks and both are sourced from the same transfer, but they offer different listening experiences. The Criterion mono has been EQ'd to be "narrower" with a strong dialogue emphasis and some light noise reduction, while the LaserDisc mono has a much "roomier" EQ with less dialogue emphasis and more audible hiss/noise. I prefer the sound of the LaserDisc mono so it was set to default. Both tracks are included, though, so listen to the samples and make your choice.

The surround remix is the same across all releases, no changes or updates were made for Sony's UHD. The Sony and Criterion UHD tracks are basically identical with the Criterion UHD having better compression due to having a lower minimum bit-depth and a more reasonably sized core. Used the Criterion for this reason.

The picture-in-picture "Cold War trivia track" from the old Sony BD was overlaid onto the LaserDisc mono with appropriate fades and gain reductions as needed. The pop-up video track only features the commentators faces like they are being interviewed, so there are no graphic or image references that would be missed when listening to only the audio.

English (US + UK / SDH and non-SDH) subtitles OCR'd, spellchecked, and demuxed from source 1/synced from source 2.
