"Alone, we have the power to revolutionize the world.

In a loose retelling of the Revolutionary Girl Utena TV series, Utena Tenjou arrives at Ohtori Academy, only to be immediately swept up in a series of duels for the hand of her classmate Anthy Himemiya and the power she supposedly holds. At the same time, Utena reunites with Touga Kiryuu, a friend from her childhood who seems to know the secrets behind the duels. Utena must discover those secrets for herself, before the power that rules Ohtori claims her and her friends, new and old."

And someday, together, we'll shine...

Queer identity trapped in an inescapable labyrinth of labeled heteronormativity. Set in a rigid, systemic academy depicted not as a clockwork machine but instead always under construction, never finished, divided by crumbling gaps. A utopia left unfinished, unresolved, unsupportable, its students wander the Escher-esque stairways and skyways, receding into the geometry until they too have been absorbed by the normative ideal. None can escape. The unfinished gaps--the voids--keep them from doing so. Instead of building what's missing, the students polish and perfect what's already there, leaving the gaps to rot and decay, queer selves and whole people left abandoned.

To fill the void, the myth of the Prince is borne from the hearts of those who have not seen nor experienced a love they can not comprehend, for to achieve that love, one must race through the End of the World, and break through the ever-constricting walls of oppressive labeling and identity. The Castle of Eternity is but an illusion; and when you see it for what it truly is, you can either be consumed by the wheels and engines that drive it forever onward, past the reaches of the unenlightened, or you can break through the machinery and Revolutionize the World.

For, you see, there is no Prince and there never shall be. The only identity that matters is your own. No roads will be paved out for you in the Real World, for you will pave your own roads as there shall be no more voids to stop you. And then, together, you will shine on.

Nanami is currently a cow.
