Trama
X-Men è un film del 2000 diretto da Bryan Singer. L’ufficializzazione dell’esistenza dei mutanti ha diviso l’opinione pubblica. Questi umani dotati di superpoteri e innate abilità, infatti, se da una parte incuriosiscono i cittadini, dall’altra potrebbero rappresentare una minaccia per la sicurezza degli umani. Nel corso di un congresso a Washington, il senatore Kelly (Bruce Davison) si dimostra un fervente sostenitore della legge sulla ‘Registrazione dei mutanti’ che mira a censire tutta la popolazione dotata di poteri. Al congresso sono presenti anche Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), mutante costretto sulla carrozzella e dotato di poteri telepatici, e Erik Lehnsherr (Ian McKellen) soprannominato ‘Magneto’ che ha il potere di generare campi magnetici che gli permettono di controllare i metalli.
Gli ex-amici si trovano su due fronti opposti: Xavier, a capo di una scuola privata per giovani mutanti, è convinto che i poteri debbano essere sfruttati per aiutare e proteggere gli umani; Magneto, dopo l’esperienza dell’olocausto vissuta durante l'infanzia, è convinto che gli umani vogliano controllare e assoggettare i mutanti così come i nazisti fecero con gli ebrei. Mentre i due discutono sul futuro, la vita della giovane Marie (Anna Paquin) è sconvolta dalla scoperta dei suoi poteri. La ragazza, dopo aver involontariamente quasi ucciso il suo fidanzato, fugge terrorizzata verso il Canada. Qui incontra il misterioso mutante Logan (Hugh Jackman), soprannominato ‘Wolverine’, che si scontrerà con il mutante Sabretooth (Tyler Mane) per salvarle la vita. I poteri di Marie, infatti, sono essenziali per il malefico piano di Magneto e della sua banda, che cercheranno di piegare la giovane utilizzando le sue debolezze. Ma non tutto è perduto dal momento che gli X-Men, una squadra di formidabili mutanti che segue l’esempio di Xavier, sono pronti ad intervenire per salvare la nuova arrivata…
