Synopsis:
Germain (Fabrice Luchini), a disillusioned and cynical high school literature teacher, is weary of grading dull, uninspired essays from his suburban students. His apathy is shattered when he reads a homework assignment by sixteen-year-old Claude Garcia (Ernst Umhauer). Claude writes with sharp, uncanny observational detail about infiltrating the home of his suburban classmate, Rapha, slyly concluding his essay with "To be continued..." Intrigued and unsettled, Germain encourages Claude to continue his story, feeding him literary advice to sharpen his narrative tension. As Claude's installments delve deeper into Rapha's family life—and his growing obsession with Rapha's mother, Esther (Emmanuelle Seigner)—the line between fiction, voyeurism, and reality rapidly blurs. Germain, alongside his art-gallery curator wife Jeanne (Kristin Scott Thomas), becomes both mentor and co-conspirator in a dangerous psychological game where the ending remains entirely unwritten.
