Synopsis:
In 1956, during a secret visit to a cinema in West Berlin, high school seniors Theo (Leonard Scheicher) and Kurt (Tom Gramenz) see dramatic newsreel footage of the Hungarian Uprising in Budapest. Deeply moved by the tragic struggle of the freedom fighters, they convince their classmates in Stalinstadt, East Germany, to hold a spontaneous, peaceful two-minute moment of silence during lessons to honor the victims. What the students intended as a simple, human gesture of solidarity quickly morphs into a massive political crisis. Deemed a counter-revolutionary act of treason by the state apparatus, the class faces a ruthless investigation led by the People’s Education Minister. Threatened with a lifelong ban from higher education unless they name the ringleader, the students are forced to choose between breaking their solidarity or sacrificing their own futures.
