Synopsis:
Based on the momentous real-world historical events that sparked South Korea’s June Democratic Uprising. In January 1987, a young pro-democracy college activist, Park Jong-chul, dies during a brutal, waterboarding interrogation under the watch of the ruthless national security commissioner, Director Park (Kim Yoon-seok). The state security apparatus immediately moves to quickly cremate the body and cover up the murder as a sudden heart attack. However, a courageous public prosecutor refuses to sign the illegal cremation order, a relentless journalist leaks the autopsy results, and a network of ordinary citizens—including a low-ranking prison guard and his niece—risk their lives to smuggle out the truth, igniting a massive, historical movement that changed a nation forever.
