Synopsis:
An epic Italian drama tracking the lives of two brothers, Nicola and Matteo Carati, from the late 1960s to the early 2000s. In Part 1, the narrative begins in Rome against the backdrop of student unrest and shifting societal norms. The brothers' lives take a defining turn when they encounter Giorgia, a traumatized young woman institutionalized in a psychiatric ward. Attempting to rescue her, they confront their own diverging worldviews, leading Matteo to enter the police force out of a yearning for structure, while Nicola pursues medicine and embraces bohemian liberalism. Their personal journeys intertwine with major turning points in modern Italian history, including the catastrophic 1966 Florence flood.
