Trama:
Film biografico sul re Giorgio VI di Gran Bretagna (padre dell'attuale regina Elisabetta II) e sulla sua lotta per tutta la vita per superare il suo difetto di pronuncia. Affetto da balbuzie fin dall'età di quattro o cinque anni, il giovane principe Alberto temeva qualsiasi impegno in pubblico. La storia narra che il suo discorso di chiusura dell'Esposizione del Commonwealth di Londra del 1925 fu difficile sia per lui che per tutti coloro che lo ascoltarono quel giorno. Nel corso degli anni si sottopose a diverse terapie, ma fu solo dopo aver incontrato Lionel Logue, un logopedista, che iniziò a fare veri progressi. Logue non aveva una laurea in medicina, ma aveva lavorato come insegnante di dizione a teatro e si era occupato di soldati traumatizzati dalla guerra dopo la Prima Guerra Mondiale. Attraverso una varietà di tecniche e molto impegno, Alberto imparò a parlare in modo tale da rendere il suo problema un ostacolo minore e a pronunciare un discorso impeccabile, trasmesso via radio in tutto il mondo, quando il Regno Unito dichiarò guerra alla Germania nazista nel 1939. Il Re e Logue rimasero amici per tutta la vita.
