The new 4K restoration brings a significant detail improvement over the 2009 BD releases, generally having little (though variable) DNR with a fair amount of sharpening applied on top. The color grade of the 4K restoration varies heavily from the 2009 BDs in many scenes with a generally warmer and more neutral grade, though this doesn't hold true for all scenes. More distressingly, there are a number of edits and visual changes to the film in the new 4K restoration, including at least airbrushing of blemishes, adding lens flares, digitally painting new objects in shots, and fixing "errors" like visible light sources in reflections. A number of these changes can be seen in the comparison and there are likely many more.

Audio
Fight Club was originally presented with "quad track" 35mm prints that included Dolby Digital Surround EX, Sony Dynamic Digital Sound, DTS-ES, and Dolby Stereo SR. The Dolby Digital and DTS presentations, in compatible theaters, would have a center surround channel matrixed into the two side surround channels to allow for utilization of center or rear surrounds in the theater. The DTS version of this tech (named as "DTS-ES 35mm") included the matrixed 5-channel audio (the LFE would be decoded upon playback) on a CD-ROM in the lossy APT-X100 codec.
For this remux, the theatrical DTS-ES mix was synced from the CD-ROM as it both offers improved fidelity over the boosted and limited 5.1 tracks on BD/UHD and allows for the audio to be presented in its original matrixed 5-channel format. The DTS mix was synced exactly to the UHD audio and kept at 24 fps with the video speed changed accordingly. The synced track was resampled to 48 kHz and encoded as 6.1 matrix DTS-HD MA with a 768 kbps core. If you have a receiver that is capable of reading the DTS-ES flag in this track, the center surround channel will be decoded and will play in the center surround channel (in 6.1 systems) or as dual mono in rear surrounds (in 7.1 systems).
Additionally, the new 5.1 surround remix created for the 2026 home video release was included as an alternate option. Though I prefer the sound of the original theatrical track, the remixed track has a number of small changes to effects levels and generally has very different dialogue levels throughout. The 2026 remix is the latest update of the film's surround soundtrack for home video so it was preferred as the alternate over the older 2009 remix (which is closer to the theatrical track, IMO).
Because the video was sped up to 24 fps to avoid changing the speed of the DTS mix, the four commentary tracks and 2026 remix had to be sped up. These commentary tracks were converted to a 24-bit lossless intermediate, sped up with SoX, and then dithered to 16-bit in RX while the surround track was re-encoded to DTS-HD MA and was not dithered to 16-bit. The commentary tracks have the same fidelity between the 2009 BDs and the UHD so the UHD tracks were used for convenience.

Subtitles + Chapters
English (US / SDH and non-SDH / main film + commentary) subtitles OCR'd, spellchecked, and synced from sources 1 & 3. All PGS subtitles were sped up to 24 fps, synced, and tonemapped to match the UHD subtitles (#929292, 57% white). A bonus trivia subtitle track with storyboard images, stills, and German-language trivia was included and tonemapped for comfortable viewing in HDR (thanks vevv!). Additional subtitles were synced from various WEB-DLs. Alternate subtitles were included where there were significant differences in translation, editing, or formatting, with non-alternate subtitles matching the PGS where applicable. Named chapters from source 1 were adjusted to the nearest I- or P-frames where necessary; all releases from DVD to UHD have the same 36 named chapters.
