Plot
Barley Scott Blair, a Lisbon-based editor of Russian literature who unexpectedly begins
working for British intelligence, is commissioned to investigate the purposes of Dante, a
dissident scientist trapped in the decaying Soviet Union that is crumbling under the new
open-minded policies.
Trama
Nei primi anni della perestroika, durante la Fiera dell'Audio a Mosca, il rappresentante
inglese Nicki Landau riceve dall'affascinante Katya Orlova tre quaderni e una lettera, da
consegnare segretamente all'editore inglese Barley Blair, ma, poiché, tornato a Londra,
non riesce a trovarlo, consegna tutto ai Servizi Segreti Britannici, i quali vi trovano
dati scientifici, che provano l'incapacità della Russia di fare una guerra nucleare, e
quindi l'inutilità della corsa agli armamenti da parte degli occidentali.
