Celebrity MasterChef S20 E04-E06 (1080p, soft English subtitles)
Celebrities scramble to compete in the kitchen. What culinary triumphs will they whisk up?
E04 It’s the second week of heats, and five more up-for-it celebrities have traded in their glad rags for a pinny to show they’re worth their salt (and pepper) in the kitchen. The quarter-final looms at the end of the week, but not all of them will make it. Their fate is down to judges Grace Dent and John Torode. This week’s wannabe superstar cooks are author and broadcaster Dawn O’Porter, TV personality Chris Hughes, soul legend Jaki Graham, actor Jamie Lomas and pop star Michelle Heaton. Cloches at the ready, as first up are some secret ingredients. Each celebrity reveals which must sit proudly on their first dish. Amongst today’s offerings are butter beans, pineapple and smoked haddock. The larder has had its shelves replenished too, so there’s no excuse for a lack of inspiration. That said, some of the celebrity cooks might find the choice overwhelming. First impressions count, and John and Grace will be hoping to taste a bit of potential. Failed miserably? Fear not, celebrities, as there are two more chances to impress the judges, starting with a blindfolded palate test. Can the famous five identify carved cubes of meat, fish, veg or fruit by touch and taste alone? The winner is rewarded with an extra ten minutes of cooking time in the next round, which might be enough for some final flourishes – or at least help them get everything cooked in time. It’s all to play for. The fearless five then all head into tonight’s final round, where the Celebrity MasterChef street food market is set up ready for another day of trading. Each of the celebs needs to prepare the next street food success story – a dish they’d be happy to serve up to the paying public. The judges are sampling their wares, and with burgers, croquettes and tacos on today’s menu, they are in for a real treat. There’s no elimination today, but every winning dish served up helps the celebrities’ chances of making it into this group's quarter-final.
E05 The competition continues, with familiar faces from the world of showbiz battling to prove their mettle in the kitchen. Only one can be crowned champion, but getting there will take courage, confidence and a hefty dose of culinary wizardry. Our second group of five fearless celebrities have hit the week with varying degrees of success, and the pressure is about to be stepped up as they take on two more challenges designed to assess which of them are quarter-final-ready. The one falling behind will depart today, leaving the rest to mourn their departure – briefly. There’s a guest judge in the house, and she knows a thing or two about potatoes. Poppy O’Toole, the social media queen of the spud, who also just happens to be a Michelin-trained chef, is joining Grace and John to set today’s task. Her recipes have had over one billion views across social platforms, and now it’s for the five celebs to calm their culinary nerves as they each try their best to recreate one of Poppy’s favourite dishes. Naturally, each includes a potato element, and naturally, Poppy will be unhappy if the celebs don’t do them justice. It’s time for the celebrities to learn some tricks of the trade, which might just be their saving grace going forward. One more task awaits the celebrities, assuming they have not scarpered under the pressure. Next, they must deliver a two-course dinner party menu, including a main and dessert, that knocks the socks off the judges and cements their place in the quarter-final. One thing is for sure: these celebs are hungry for more and will leave nothing on the table – apart from two courses they hope will seal the deal. One star will be saying farewell, while the others press on into uncharted territory as the race to become Celebrity MasterChef champion continues.
E06 It’s the second quarter-final, and the four best celebrity cooks from the week go all out to prove they are skilled enough to nab a place in the semi-finals. Two tough tasks will determine who is no longer up to the challenge, leaving the rest to forge on towards culinary stardom. We’ve seen these celebrities cook solo – now it’s time for some teamwork as they take on the pairs challenge. Each team of two has their own recipe and must deliver two identical portions of that dish, but they are working on separate benches, and only one of them has access to the recipe. The recipes in this round are both desserts, a bakewell tart and a millefeuille. Given how technical and precise dessert making is, the celebrities' communication has to be on point. Will the dishes bear any resemblance to the classics we know and love? One hour to deliver, or maybe destroy, a classic. If they think that was tough, judges Grace and John have one more challenge up their culinary sleeves. The celebs need to cook their most splendid two-course menu for three super-special, and super-hungry, diners: Celebrity MasterChef 2024 champion Vito Coppola and former finalists Rochenda Sandall and Harry Aikines-Aryeetey. They are praying for some good food, and the celebs are hoping for some leniency should things not go as planned. A place in the semi-finals is at stake, so nerves are definitely be on the day's menu. The judges then mull things over and decide which celebs have come up trumps, leaving the one lagging behind to say their goodbyes. Things are about to get serious as the race for this year’s title continues.
